1. Scope
1.1
This Standard applies to supply and exhaust mechanical ventilation equipment. Examples of equipment covered by this Standard would be bathroom fans, kitchen fans, or ventilation equipment forming part of a central ventilation system.
1.2
The purpose of this Standard is to establish a uniform method (a) to determine the air movement characteristics; and (b) to measure the sound output of residential mechanical ventilation equipment. Note: Air movement and sound testing of heat recovery ventilators may be tested to this Standard; however, thermal performance and cross-contamination testing is covered in CSA Standard CAN/CSA-C439.
1.3
This Standard prescribes how the data obtained in Clause 1.2 are to be presented in the form of performance ratings for the products.
1.4
This Standard does not apply to air circulating devices such as pedestal and ceiling fans.
1.5
This Standard does not apply to devices whose primary function is to heat or cool a space such as a window-mounted air conditioner, whether or not the device is provided with a ventilating function.
